When we have a romantic connection the brain releases high amounts of dopamine. The euphoric feeling of dopamine release causes a high that has been compared to taking drugs: rapid pulse, shallow breathing, red cheeks. Other hormones like cortisol and norepinephrine also increase, causing us to experience a feeling of urgency and to think frequently about our romantic interest. Friends, family and colleagues have enjoyed watching me act like a "giddy school girl" blushing and stroking my hair at the mention of MHS (My Heart Smile) or when his constellation ring tone goes off.
MHS first visit to KCL- He let me know that he had some time off and he would be heading to my area, so I invited him for a visit to KCL. After weeks of anticipation and preparation, the day arrived and it unfolded like a romance novel. He had purchased gates from fb marketplace, so I went to meet him and he greeted me with that smile and a "Hey" giving me tingles all over. When we returned to KCL he climbed behind me on my 4 wheeler for a tour of the property squeezing me with hugs throughout the tour. Conversation flowed with bourbon and wine that complimented the sausage balls, cheese board, salad and crab cakes. Along the way there was music, dancing and lots of kissing. After he helped me clean up from dinner, we went to visit the She Shed. The rain started to come down harder with a Nora Jones record playing in the background which drew us closer together. There was a balance of control and gentleness as his deep brown eyes looked into my soul. The world disappeared for an oblivious period of time, until he asked me to be the little spoon as he drifted off to sleep. I slipped out of bed to go secure the house. When I returned I watched him sleep peacefully as the candle light flickered on his face. I guess he could feel me staring at him as he struggle to open his eyes with a "Hey" spoken with his sweet sleepy southern drawl. As the sunlight tried to break through the rain clouds we could hear the rain bouncing off the tin roof providing a comforting sound from our childhood. We embraced the moment and each other as the rain came down throughout the day. My hope is we all have these moments in our life, let go and live HIGH!
Come away with me- Norah Jones
