On May 1st we hosted our first "Interesting People Dinner" consisting of 4 couples that didn't know each other. Each couple was responsible for making a course and providing a topic of discussion. The weather was low 70's and sunny which was perfect for dinner by the creek. Preparation started a few days earlier with finishing She Shed walkway, putting up outdoor string lights, stocking the outdoor kitchen, etc... Upon arrival each couple picked a mini candle that had a room code on the bottom (She Shed, Master bedroom or Bunk room). My Heart Smile (MHS) and I slept in the back of his pickup truck under the stars, another bucket list item completed. The first topic was upcoming vacations after a year of quarantine. Everyone was excited to share future plans of getting back to livin' as we indulged in wine, cheese and appetizers by the creek at sunset. When the steaks, lobster tails and sides went on the grill everyone worked together to transfer food to table by the creek with solar string lights hanging above. After prayer, we indulged in a gourmet delight while introducing the topic of educated vs common sense. The diversity of backgrounds, minds and professions (pilot, military officers, politician, pharmaceutical managers, decorator, NASA retiree) elevated the conversation and allowed each of us to learn from others perspective. After dinner, we moved to the sitting area by the creek where the guys had cigars and bourbon. I have become a fan of tasting bourbon on my man's lips after he takes a sip, all flavor with no burning Mmmmm! The dessert (Sundrop cake with lemon infused cream and raspberries) topic was best kiss with your spouse/partner, it was sweet as each couple reflected on passionate moments. Laughter and free flowing conversation filled the air as we congregated around the ember glowing vintage stove. We observed as new friendships and even a bromance blossomed before our eyes. A broad variety of music played as we danced under the string lights letting go of the rest of the world and taking complete advantage of KCL kairos.

There has been far too much rhetoric focusing on what is broken in our society. I say STOP focusing on the negative and take positive action! The southern translation: put up or shut up. Host an interesting people dinner to show people love, seek to understand and listen. Research shows that the #1 thing people need even greater than love is to be HEARD.
